John Charles Gastel, 73, of Jasper, MO passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK after a short illness. John was born on July 21, 1946 to Gene and Dorothy Andrews Gastel. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1964. He was a lifelong farmer for over 65 years in the Jasper and Lamar area.
On December 9, 1967, John and Sue Ann McClintock were joined in marriage in Lamar, MO. They were married for 40 years. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2008. John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to see movies and shows in Branson. He also enjoyed playing golf and one highlight was a hole-in-one shot at the Carthage Golf Course.
John is survived by five daughters--Amy Atnip and husband Carl of Carthage, MO; Lori Gastel of Webb City, MO; Julie Lambert and husband John of Portland, OR; Lisa Gastel of Kansas City, MO; Sara Gastel-Roth and husband Courtney of Webb City, MO; six grandchildren--Kieran, Eva, Brady, Lincoln, Rowan and Roddy; brothers David Gene Gastel and wife Sharon of Rocklin, CA and Robert Gastel of Sand Springs, OK; sister Mary Passmore and husband Jim of Elk City, ID; brothers-in-law Jeff Galitz of Grayslake, IL and Bill McClintock and wife Sandra of Naperville, IL; friend Roberta Koontz and family of Golden City, MO; lifelong friend, Denny Hartley of Carthage, MO along with extended family and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Nina Galitz and Ruth Nowlin; brother-in-law Larry Nowlin and sister-in-law Carol Gastel.
A memorial service will be held at the Daniel Funeral Home and Chapel in Lamar, MO on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 1:00 pm.
Contributions can be made payable to the Dorothy Andrews Gastel Memorial Teachers Scholarship at Pittsburg State University or the Zero-The End of Prostate Cancer fund in care of the funeral home.
All arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, MO.
