David Michael 'Mike' Felker, age 75, Carl Junction, passed away at 3:02 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City.
Mike was born January 6, 1944 in Joplin to the late Udah K. Felker and Maud Ella Patterson Felker and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
Mike worked in sales at Joplin Supply for over forty two years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Fellowship lodge #345, AF & AM, where he was raised to the degree of Master Mason in March of 1996. He was also a member of the Jasper Lodge, where he served as chaplain.
A charter member and past president of the Scottish Rite Club of Joplin, Mike received his thirty-second degree in Scottish Rite Masonry in May of 1996, was designated Knight Commander, Court of Honor (KCCH) in October of 2005, and was honored in November of 2017 by being coroneted as a Thirty-Third Degree Inspector General (Honorary) of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction. Mike served the Scottish Rite in several capacities, including chairman of the building committee for the Scottish Rite Cathedral and was instrumental in organizing the relief activities of the Scottish Rite following the Joplin tornado of 2011.
Mike was a member of the Carthage Shrine Club and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield, and was a member of the Burn Crew Unit of Abou Ben Adhem, where he had served as 'Fire Chief' (President).
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed fishing; hunting; wood working and puzzles. Mike put God first in everything he did and was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He was known as, 'Pops' to his grandchildren and loved his family with all his heart. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Mike married Susan 'Sue' Spell in 1964 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include two sons, James Felker and wife, Tammie, Dusty Felker; a sister, Janice Booe, Idaho; grandchildren, Austin, Josie, Aron; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Sparrow, Pat Spell; his dog, Chloe; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Udah Neil Felker.
Graveside services are planned for Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jim Felker, Dusty Felker, Ken Pierce, Tom Musgrove, Bob Stines and Norman Rush. Honorary pallbearers will be Josie Felker, Austin Felker and Kevin Booe. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin Building Fund, in care of Parker Mortuary.
