Edward Atwood

Edward S. Atwood age 90 of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lexington, Missouri to George Atwood and Misha (Johnson) Atwood on September 4, 1928.

 Edward graduated from Henrieta High School in 1947 and entered the United States Air Force in 1948. He was in communications and also a recruiter having served in the Korean War having been stationed in Texas, England, Kansas, Germany, and Michigan before his retirement after 23 years of service in 1970 at the rank of Master Sargent. Edward was also in management at Eagle Picher Industries, and graduated from MSSU with a degree in general studies. 

 He married Nona L. Atwood on March 16, 1954 in Alexandria, Louisiana and she preceded him in death on November 24, 2006. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ginny Atwood-Wallace. 








Edward is survived by his daughter, Suzie Atwood-Carver of Joplin; a son, Matt Atwood and wife Carla of Oregon City, Oregon; and another daughter, Cathy Atwood of Joplin; a sister, Ginny Conard of Waterville, Washington; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. 

 Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Carterville First Baptist Church at 10:00 AM with Pastor Darren Wallace officiating. The family will be present for a visitation on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City. Burial will follow services in the Carterville Cemetery.
