Frank S. “Shrop” Dunaway III, age 71, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 28, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Shrop was born December 29, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Frank S. Dunaway, Jr. and Mary Helen (Garvin) Dunaway. He was a 1966 graduate of Carthage High School. He then graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. Shrop was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated Legacy Advisory Services in Carthage. Shrop was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage.
Survivors include Salley Schwartz, Cedar Crest, New Mexico; three sons, Frank S. Dunaway IV (Tammy), Rowlett, Texas, Charles G. Dunaway, Sandpoint, Idaho, and William P. Dunaway, Crescent City, California; one brother, Garvin Dunaway (Charlotte), Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters, Charlotte Holland Joyce (Max), Jefferson City, Missouri, and Helen Marie Haughey (Jeff), Tulsa, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Joan Keenan.
Memorial services will be held 4:30 pm, Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Carthage Community Foundation in care of Knell Mortuary.
