Evelyn Estella (Starchman) Ames, 95, passed into her heavenly home on September 27, 2017 at 8:10 p.m. in her Carl Junction home surrounded by family.
Evelyn was born November 14, 1921 to the late Victor Starchman and Ethel (Shoup) Starchman.
She married Harry Ray Ames on August 12, 1939 and raised six children together. After 55 years of marriage, Harry preceded her in death on December 15, 1994, but they can finally hold hands again.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had a huge heart and caring nature. Over the years, she and Harry opened their hearts and home to care for many family members and friends. Harry and Evelyn chose to be foster parents and were blessed to foster over 125 children. As her late nephew, David Starchman recently wrote, 'If you want to count the ways Aunt Evelyn is successful, just count the number of children she loved and helped raise in her foster home'.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her step father, James Odom; brothers, Ray Starchman, Franklin Starchman, Merriel Starchman, Leonard Starchman; sisters, Bessie Starchman, Elizabeth Tindle, Wilma Clinton; son, Donald Tracy; son-in-law, Sparks Ritchie; and great granddaughter, Cassandra Moran.
Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Ritchie and Maxine (James) Moran, both of Carl Junction; sons, Michael (Tina) Tracy, Kevin (Joyce) Ames, both of Carl Junction, Frank 'Corky' Ames of Webb City; twenty one grandchildren; thirty two great grandchildren with two on the way; ten great great grandchildren with one on the way; and three great great great grandchildren. Evelyn is also survived by her first foster child, Lora Lynn Champlin, who has remained a loving daughter and close friend to 'Momma Ames' throughout her life.
Services are planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Carl Junction Cemetery. The sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.
