Richard Allan "Rick" Duerr, Jr., age 50, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at his home.
Rick was born September 3, 1967 in Camden, New York, son of the late Nancy Jane Cole Duerr and Richard A. Duerr, Sr. of Camden. He grew up in Camden and graduated from Camden High School before attending Mohawk Valley Community College, and then Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma where he received his degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology in 1993. He was certified as a level 4 Technologist by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies. He was currently a Fire Protection Engineer with the Joplin Fire and Safety Protection Company (MARMIC). He was also a former volunteer fireman for Camden, New York, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Rick was a long time devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Joplin. He served on the Martin Luther School Board for several years, and designed and managed the addition of safe rooms for the school.
In addition to his mother, Nancy Duerr, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dan Salters.
He was a very devoted husband to his wife, Kimberly C. Salters Duerr, and his daughters, Rebecca and Gabriella.
Also surviving are his father, Richard A. Duerr, Sr. of Camden; brother, Robert Duerr and wife Lisa of Sylvan Beach, New York; mother-in-law, Chistiane Knaus of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Peter Salters and wife Jennie of Valentine, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Gregory Mech officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church K-9 Comfort Dogs Ministry, 2616 Connecticut Avenue, Joplin, MO 64804.
