Leland William Johnson, age 84 of Jasper, Missouri passed away September 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Leland was born February 20, 1933 at Carthage, Missouri. He was a 1952 graduate of Jasper high School. Leland was a member of the Jasper VFW Post 6415 and was a former member of the Mitchell Cemetery Board. Leland served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, spending eighteen months in Ulm, Germany. After his military service, he returned to Jasper to begin farming and to operate a dairy east of Jasper.
Leland married Sue Phillips on August 30, 1952 at Carthage, Missouri. Leland and Sue raised their four children, Terry, Randy, Pam, and Jan on their family farm. Survivors include his wife, Sue of the home. Three daughters, Terry (Chub) Rives of Jasper, Pam (Rick) Oeltjen of Carthage, and Jan Johnson (Doug Lucas) of Jasper. One sister, Jewell Elliott of Webb City. Six grandchildren, Rusty (Becky) Rives, Casey (Alicia) Rives, Marcy (Bryan) Garver, Gabe Oeltjen, Phil (Jarica) Oeltjen, and Ellie Lucas. Eleven great-grandchildren, Chase, Brady, Cody, Blaine, Braxton, Bryer, Mylah, Carter, Claire, Ian, and Caitlyn. Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Cora (Sunderland) Johnson. His son, Randy Johnson. And a brother-in-law, Steve Elliott.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery east of Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to Mitchell Cemetery.
