Irene Comer

Irene Comer, 98, of Joplin, passed away Friday, November 6, 2020.

Irene was born August 3, 1922 in Barton County, Kansas to the late William and Valeda (Simpson) Connor. 

In 1942, Irene was united in marriage to Ralph Comer and together they had two children, Reuben and Gail. She worked as a dedicated homemaker, raising her children and taking care of the home.

Irene was a devout Catholic and a 74-year member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Joplin, where she was most associated with her volunteer efforts at their Outreach House. 








The Kansas City Chiefs lost one of their biggest fans in her passing. She had a heart of gold, always putting everyone before herself, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Comer; a great-grandson, Mikeal Crandall; and her son, Reuben Comer.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail Crandall, of Joplin; three grandsons, Ronnie Crandall (Donna) of Loma Linda, Robert Crandall (Nancy) of Neosho and Reuben Crandall (Stacy) of Stark City; 12 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. J. Friedel officiating Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Parish prayers will be held on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with visitation following until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Area Catholic Schools or St. Peter’s Outreach House in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
