Beverly Skancke

(From Parker Mortuary)

Beverly Maxine Skancke at age 92 passed into heaven on March 16, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at Freeman Hospital where she was being treated for a fall she experienced in her home on Saturday, March 13.

Beverly was born January 2, 1929, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Wesley and Thelma Noel.

She grew up there, graduated from Washington High School and met her future husband Curtis who was a college student at Augustana College in Sioux Falls. They were married on August 22, 1948.

Together with Curtis, Beverly raised their three children in Mitchell, South Dakota before moving to Leavenworth, Kansas in 1970 and then to Joplin, Missouri in 1982. They resided in Briarbrook development in Carl Junction. She moved to a townhouse next to the #10 tee box of Briarbrook Country Club after Curtis passed away in 1990, until she moved to Wildwood Senior Living in 2019.

An avid golfer, Bev kept her golf clubs and cart ready to go in her garage, and played regularly with friends and family into her late 80s. She loved to play bridge with friends and was a regular member of three bridge clubs that met at Twin Hills in Joplin. During Covid she was a regular card and game player at Wildwood.

Beverly was actively engaged in her local communities with leadership in civic and faith activities. She was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church. She loved making new friends and helping others. Until Covid restrictions prevented it, she was an active traveler making regular trips with family and friends to places in the US, Europe and Mexico, annually spending 2-4 weeks in Mexico with family members. She was planning trips to visit family in South Dakota, Michigan, Virginia and Florida this spring before her tragic fall on March 13.

In addition to her parents, Beverly is preceded in death by her husband Curtis in 1990, her son David in 2018, an infant great-granddaughter in 2011, her brother Wesley (Phyllis) in 2020, and her sister Constance in the 1930s.

Beverly is survived by loving family and friends, including her son Steven (Nancy) of Great Falls, VA, Sandra Martinek of Berien Springs, MI, grand children Matt (Sarah) Skancke, Carolyn (Neil) Paine, Preston (Tanya) Martinek, Andrew (Clark) Martinek, Adam Martinek, Karen (Mike) Bankowski and Brent (Ashley) Skancke, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her brother Kenneth (Esther) Noel.

A Visitation and Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. (central daylight time), respectively, at Parker Mortuary.
