(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Retha Kathryn Sweeton, 83 of Baxter Springs, Kansas passed from this life on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO.
Retha was born August 21, 1937 in Baxter Springs, KS to the union of Henry and Florence (Lewis) Jones. She graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1954.
She worked for JC Penney as a supervisor for twenty-five years. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ of Baxter Springs, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Retha was united in marriage to Jimmie Lee Sweeton on April 10, 1955 in Baxter Springs, KS. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons; Stan Sweeton and wife Tamera of Olathe, KS, Rick Sweeton and wife Susan of Seneca, MO, and Steve Sweeton and wife Karrie of Lee’s Summit, MO; two brothers, Allen Jones of Baxter Springs, KS, and Glen Jones of Miami, OK; sister, Erma Poteet of Joplin, MO; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Retha is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thurman Jones, Donald Jones, and Homer Jones; sister, Alma Spainhower.
