Richard Spencer

Richard E. Spencer was born February 17, 1962 to Paul and Darlene Sue (Gorham) Spencer. He entered into rest March 23, 2021 after a sudden, unexpected illness at the age of 59. 

Richard graduated from Neosho High School in 1980 and was proud to be a lifelong Neosho area resident. He served as an Associate Professor at MSSU for twenty six years and was the only faculty member to win Professor and Advisor of the year in MSSU’s history. 

In his leisure time, Richard could be found enjoying a Kansas City Chief’s game, gardening, adding to his coin collection or reading one of his many books. He was an avid reader and an NRA member. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson Radley, and the family dog, Sadie. 







Richard and Kristin (Davis) were married on June 17, 2005 in Neosho and they shared fifteen years together. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Reed Spencer and wife Jade of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Raven Spencer of Joplin, Missouri; his mother and stepfather, Sue and Dr. Marion Weston; one stepson, Garrett Best and fiancĂ© Imogen Hartle of Houston, Texas; one stepdaughter, Taylor Best of Joplin Missouri; one grandson, Radley Spencer; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Paul. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 27 at 10:00 am at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho. Interment will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Neosho, Missouri. 

In lieu of flowers in memory of Richard, contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
