Pauline Steele

Pauline Steele was born June 16, 1924 in Drew, Mississippi, one of twelve children to Arthur and Bessie (Rushing) Henley. She entered into rest on March 23, 2021 at her home in Joplin, surrounded by her family at the age of 96. 

Pauline moved to California, where she met her husband, Jerry and to this union, two daughters were born. The family relocated to SW Missouri in 1961. She had worked as a waitress at the Conner Hotel and several other establishments of that era and worked as a caregiver with home health until her retirement. 








 Pauline loved her family and never missed a birthday or holiday with a special gift for them. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to casinos. She attended Central Christian Center for several years and loved her church, church family and enjoyed be able to watch services on television. 

Pauline and Clovis Steele were married on January 20, 2011 and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2015. 

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Mark) Embrey of Neosho and Nancy Vowell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a special grandson, Jeremy Selsor who provided care for her until her death. In addition to her grandson, Jeremy, she is survived by other grandchildren, Whitney Wilson of Joplin, Eric Allen of China, Cassidy Vowell of Oklahoma and Dane Vowell of Omaha, Nebraska; five great grandchildren and one special sister, Mary (Ronald) Ray of Louisiana and many loving nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, eight sisters and a great granddaughter.
