Roger Adams

Dr. Roger Earl Adams, 77, of Joplin went to be with Jesus on March 19, 2021 with his family by his side.

Roger was born March 10, 1944 in Manhattan, Kansas to Earl and Mildred (Skorup) Adams.

He was a graduate of College High School and Pittsburg State University and received his Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University. Roger set the National record four times for his class X/Fuel Rail Dragster. 








Roger taught Automotive Technology at Missouri Southern State University before ending his teaching career at Pittsburg State University. Roger owned and Operated Adams Automotive for many years. 

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shirley Russow on August 17, 1985, in Joplin, MO. He was a member of Mirza Shrine, Carl Junction Masonic Lodge, Carl Junction Order of the Eastern Star, and Neosho Community Chapel Church. Roger was very passionate about his ministry, hundreds of “Someone’s Praying For You” bracelets have been given to people over the years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Adams, children Mike Russow, Clay and wife Sherry Adams, Johnny Russow, Holly Adams, and Danny and wife Stephanie Russow; grand-children, Darren Russow, Hunter Russow and wife Kerstyn , Hayden Russow, Gentry Adams, Alexis Adams, Isabella Russow, Asher Adams, and Levi Adams; 0ne great- grandchild, Langston Adams; Brother Jeff Adams and wife Vicki; mother in law Mary Bischoff; two sisters-in- law, Marilyn Judd and husband Charlie; Becky Bradley and husband Jerry; one brother-in-law, Mike Bischoff, and a host of former students, family and friends.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Mason and Woodard Mortuary. A celebration of Rogers life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, with burial in Stone Cemetery. Because of Roger’s passion for the Automotive Technology Department at Pittsburg State University, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Dr. Roger ‘Doc” Adams Automotive Technology Endowment Fund.
