Patsy Jane Owens, 76, of Neosho, passed away March 15, 2021.
Patsy was born November 17, 1944 in Sweetwater, Texas, to the late Ed and Maude (McCarty) Cupp.
She worked as a truck driver for Gamble in Orange, California for a time alongside her husband. She later earned her LPN license, working as both a private home caregiver, a nurse at the McDonald County nursing home, and retiring from Medicalodges in Neosho.
On April 17, 1961 Patsy was united in marriage to Chester Owens and together they had eight children. Patsy enjoyed all things outdoors, including fishing, camping, driving down country roads, and family cookouts. She also loved to dance. Patsy was a member of Hope Baptist Church and sang in Just As I Am, a group she and her best friend, Vera, participated in that brought live music to local nursing homes. Above all, Patsy loved her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and she will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; three sons, Mark, Felix, and Paul; six sisters and one brother.
She is lovingly survived by five children, Chester Owens, Jr. (Nickie) of Joplin, Gary Owens of Goodman, Bobby Owens of Goodman, Becky Rue (Jim) of Hutchison, Kansas, and Brenda Rutherford (Jim) of Neosho; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Everett Cupp (Vera) of Spring City, Maybell Cook of Joplin, Margaret Sturgis (Jay) of Joplin, Mary Simonson (Kenneth) of Joplin, and Opal Cupp of Joplin; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2021 at Saginaw Cemetery with Larry Sparks officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Justin Owens, Mark Rue, Matthew Rue, Jordan Owens, Zack Owens, Richard Seymour, Edward Owens, James Rue, and Choate Dela Rosa. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
She was one of my favorite charge nurses when I was a young CNA. She was also one of my favorite nurses when I became a nursing home administrator I hired her! RIP Dear Patsy!
