Ruth Purcell

Ruth Lenore Purcell, age 93, of Webb City, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Purcell, daughter of the late Duane and Ruth (White) Sidney, was born on April 23, 1927 in New York. 

After graduating high school in New York City, she moved to Joplin where she met Robert Leon Purcell. Not long after, they were united in marriage on August 29, 1945, in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1994. 









Ruth was employed as a bookkeeper for Elders Manufacturing in Webb City until their closing and then worked for FAG Bearings until her retirement. She set the wonderful example for her family and friends. Her hands were rarely still, sewing, crocheting, and cross stitch were her pastimes. She was a devoted mother who in her younger years was a 4H Leader and a PTA mother. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them.

Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Roche and Regina Whitelock; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Lynn Yeakey, Kathryn Charlton, Jillian Wimmer, Samuel Whitelock, Gina Leverette, Ian Holman, and Sean Holman; twelve great-grandchildren, Kealin Smith, Victoria Levesque, Chelsea Tumlin, Domenic Yeakey, Madeline Wimmer, Harper Wimmer, Taylor Holman, Sophia Holman, Patrick Holman, Brandon Holman, Jake Leverette, and Seth Leverette. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Purcell; siblings, Wallace Sidney, Joseph Sidney, David Sidney, Barry Sidney, Jerry Sidney, and Helen Sidney; one daughter, Christine Chronister; two grandchildren, Sidney Whitelock, Brian Woodmansee; one great-grandchild, Bri Holman.

Private family services will be held with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. Open viewing will be held on Sunday, March 14th from 12:00 pm till 4:00 pm at the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, Webb City.
