(From Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois)Judith Ann (Moren) Moore, lately of Pekin, Illinois, slipped peacefully away from this life on Monday, December 5, at Hallmark Healthcare, after a long illness. She then ran immediately into the arms of her Savior.
Judith, known to all as Judy, was born on October 22, 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to adoring parents Harvey and Agatha “Dot” (Hood) Moren. She attended Lynn Lane Elementary School, graduated from East Central High School in 1966, and obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Northeastern State College in 1970.
Judy went on to teach in Missouri. It was while traveling home to Tulsa, during one of her Missouri school breaks, that Judy met the love of her life, Earnest “Earnie” Ray Moore. Earnie and Judy were wed on June 1, 1974, at Lynn Lane Baptist Church in Tulsa.
Judy loved teaching school full time until the births of her daughters. Then, she was blessed enough to become a stay-at-home mother for several years. Eventually, Judy returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher, then as a kindergarten classroom aide in the Neosho, Missouri school district. Judy also worked in the Safety Department at Contract Freighters, Inc., Joplin, Missouri, for several years. But, her very favorite job began in the late 1990s, when Judy became the Administrative Assistant for Spring River Baptist Association in Joplin, Missouri. Judy was a proud Pastor’s Wife, having ministered alongside her husband, Earnie, in Spring River Baptist Associational churches for nearly ten years, until Earnie’s passing in 1994. Being able to continue the ministry she once shared with her husband, by now serving all Spring River churches, was truly one of the joys of Judy’s life.
Judy adored movies, had a television running every waking hour of the day, and had a lovely alto singing voice. She considered her two daughters and her older sister to be her very best friends. Judy loved traveling with the three of them on annual girls’ trips. She also enjoyed helping care for the Moore family’s 100 acre farm, located northwest of Neosho, Missouri, where they raised cattle and pigs, harvested naturally-growing black walnuts, blackberries, and persimmons, baled their own hay, and carefully tended a large garden.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother-in-law, William “Bill” Wilkerson. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Angela “Angie” and Don “JR” Slater, and Carey and Jason Beckerdite. She is also survived by her sister, Thelma Wilkerson, and grandchildren Aidan and Delaney “Laney” Slater, along with Katherine “Katie” and Juliana Beckerdite.
Interment will be at both New Home Cemetery in Peggs, Oklahoma and Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri. Judy’s Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am, on Friday, December 30, at Open Door Baptist Church, in Carthage, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, through the International Mission Board (IMB), in Judy’s name.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
