(From Parker Mortuary)Bernice Cooke, age 82, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at her home with family at her side.
Bernice was born November 24, 1940 in Sacremento, California, daughter of the late John English and Lorean (Marler) English. She grew up in Salem, Oregon, and graduated from Salem High School. She then moved to Missouri where she worked for several companies before co-owning and operating Robert’s Enterprise in Baxter Springs, Kansas which she sold in 1989. She was also involved with Snyder Construction as a bookkeeper.
Bernice was an avid bowler and was a member of the Joplin Bowling Hall of Fame. She bowled for many years becoming a very accomplished bowler having carried a 200 plus average for years. She loved all the friends she made over the years bowling, and will be missed by many.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by a son, Randy Shirley.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, David H. Cooke; sons, Jim Shirley and wife Linda of Joplin and Anthony Shirley of Baxter Springs, Kansas; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Michael English and wife Susie of Joplin; sister, Shirley Bruce and husband Larry of Riverton, Kansas; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Parker Mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
