(From Haskell Funeral and Cremation Services)Philip "John" Ryan, 86, of Toulon, Illinois passed away at 10:36 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2022 at Courtyard Estates of Kewanee.
John was born on November 15, 1936 in Princeville, the son of Philip Michael and Elizabeth (White) Ryan. He married Wanda Wilhelm on April 30, 1960 in Peoria; she survives.
John graduated from Toulon High School in 1954. He then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 – 1956, and in the Army Reserves from 1956 – 1958. He then began his life-long career in farming. He worked for the ASC, sealing corn and checking the corn on government bin sites.
He served on many local boards, including the soil and water board as a social and board member, the Stark County Farm Bureau, Stark County Board, the West Jersey Grade School board, the zoning and appeals board, as a chairman on the board of the Laura State Bank until it was sold, and was on the board of Trustees at the Laura United Methodist Church. John was also an OSA Badge Honoree and participated in the Greater Peoria Area Honor Flight.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 at Haskell Funeral & Cremation Services in Wyoming. Rev. Zach Waldis will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Toulon Cemetery in Toulon.
Also surviving are daughter, Elizabeth (Mike) Jones of Kewanee; son, Carl (Jeanne) Ryan of Wyoming, and a stepson, Greg (Peggy) Heintz of Stark City, MO; six grandchildren, Natasha (Matt) Wattleworth of Bloomington, Danielle Jones of Kewanee, Addison (Sydney) Ryan of Wyoming, Justine Ryan (James Code) of Chicago, Clayton (Caitlyn) Ryan of Wyoming, and Ryan Heintz of Kewanee; and five great-grandchildren.
