Jean Morris

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Rayma "Jean" Morris was “just thinking” with her eyes closed one last time on December 13, 2022 and woke up to the greatest family reunion in Heaven. While the family she leaves behind will miss her dearly, we cannot help but smile thinking about all the love that welcomed her home.

Jean was born April 27, 1934, in Wyandotte, OK to the union of Walter Lee Baumann and Susie Sarah (Black) Baumann. She was the youngest of six children and shared an especially deep bond with her twin sister June.

As a child, wherever her daddy went, Jean was not far behind. When the family bought a farm in Lowell, KS in 1947, Jean worked beside him just as diligently as her brothers. She took pride in being strong and intimidating all the boys. Her dad affectionately nicknamed her Spitfire, and while the nickname might not have stuck with her into adulthood, the fierceness that accompanied the moniker did.

Jean attended Riverton High School until 1952 and married the love of her life, Edwin “Bill” Morris in Junction City, KS on March 14 of that same year. She had her greatest life adventures with him. Together, they raised three children, and together they traveled the United States and Canada after retirement. Bill and Jean spent more than a decade on the road in their motorhome making friends all over the country, researching family genealogy, parking and playing games at many campgrounds, and occasionally terrifying their children with stories of the places Jean had driven that monstrous home on wheels. But, Jean was never one to shy away from a challenge, so getting lost in New York City was just another Tuesday for her.

Jean worked many jobs throughout her life but making a home and taking care of those she loved was where she found her purpose. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she loved them all well with home cooking and candy making. She delighted in each new title she acquired from mom to grandma to ay-ma to granny. When her children were growing up, she spent years honing her camping and crafting skills as a Boy Scout Den Mom and Girl Scout Troop Leader. Once her children were grown, she was the quintessential grandma from the time she welcomed her first grandchild to welcoming her most recent great-great grandchild.

Jean is survived by two children, Billy Morris (Vera), Joplin, MO and Debbie Eckler (Richard), Riverton, KS, son-in-law, Darryl Anderson, Columbus, KS, one sister, Dora Mae Inman, Mesa, AZ, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her greatest love, Bill

Morris, her daughter, Kathi Anderson, one grandson, Jackson Jumonville, her parents,

three brothers, Walter Lee Baumann and wife Maxine, Galena, KS, Jack Baumann

(Joann), Wichita, KS, and James Rex "Buck" Baumann (Patti), Carthage,

MO, her twin sister Ramona “June” Charles, Baxter Springs, KS and her brother-in-law,

Dan Inman, Mesa, AZ.
