Vernetta Myers

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

After beating the odds so many times, On Saturday December 10th 2022, Vernetta Mae Myers passed away at the age of 84. She was a woman devoted to her husband, Family & God. She was an amazingly loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Arthur P. Myers and their daughter Paula Witmer.

She left behind their children: Vicky Cobb and husband Steve of Carterville, Emmitt Ratliff of Carthage, Rick Myers and wife Charlene of Arkansas, Harold Myers of Springfield, Penny Shipley, Melinda Becker and husband Jeremy, Pamela Courtney and husband Loyd all of Carthage.
23 Grandchildren , 31 Great- Grand Children & 1 Great-Great Grand child, and a Brother Raymond Hart of Carthage.

She was born October 10th 1938 in Hollister Mo, to Lester Ratliff and Geraldine Thomas. She Married the love of her life and her best friend on August 14th and they were married for many happy years! She was a lifetime resident of Carthage, Missouri and was a retired nurse who helped take care of many people and delivered many babies at both Oak Hill Hospital in Joplin and McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage.

She didn't enjoy retirement, So she became a dessert chef for Ryan's restaurant in Joplin and during those years she always smelled like chocolate. After Ryan's closed, she helped a small restaurant get up and running by making her famous raspberry swirl cheesecakes which to her surprise and delight was featured on the news.

Vernetta was a mother to all who came into her home. She always made sure her children were taken care of, It didn't matter if you were her blood or not! She was the type of mother and wife we all looked up to! She raised many of her grandchildren as her own and became more mother to them than grandma. She was an excellent cook and it wasn't just a hobby for her it was her love language. She poured her heart into the meals she cooked and every time someone sat at her table we felt the love. Vernetta was the backbone to her family thru sheer stubbornness and a spine of steel and everyone loved and respected her for it. Her husband was literally her best friend and you could see the love between them through the years it never faded even in the end. If anything they seemed to love each other more as they aged. Their marriage was a romance story that the family will always hold close to our hearts!

She was active at Risen Ranch Cowboy Church and her friends there were as close as family!

There will be a memorial service for her at:
Risen Ranch Cowboy Church
January 7th at 2pm
