(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Clyde Otis Bond, 100 years young, went peacefully home to his Lord and Savior early Thursday morning, December 22nd at his home in Riverton. His Hospice nurse, Julie, daughter Linda, granddaughter Shelly and great granddaughter Autumn were attending him.
Clyde was born on October 27, 1922 to Clarence J. Bond and Grace Mae Evans Bond at his grandparent’s home in rural Riverton. He grew up and attended school there and graduated from Riverton in May 1941. While in school, he was very active in and excelled in all sports.
Clyde was a PFC in the U.S. Army from October 17, 1942 thru February 15, 1946 serving as a radio operator on the B-29 bomber planes. He received the ATO Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Clyde returned home to Riverton where he lived the rest of his life.
He met and married Esther (Miller) Bond on January 26, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri. They had 68 years together before Esther passed away on July 9, 2015. Their love and faithfulness to each other was beautiful. Clyde was a machinist for Peerless, Vickers, and Teledyne. He retired from Teledyne in 1984. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always very active. He loved to play golf and received many trophies for it. He supported the Riverton Rams all his life. Clyde was a member of Lawton Baptist Church of Lawton, Kansas.

Survivors include 3 children. Mike Bond (Lynn), Texarkana, Texas, Roxie Ward (Dave), Diamond, Missouri, and Linda Stark, Riverton, Kansas. He had 12 grandchildren and many, many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Allan Bond; daughter, Liana Pitchford; brother, Ed Bond; and son-in-law Glenn Stark.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 29th at 12:00 with the service to follow at 1:00 at Baxter Derfelt Chapel in Baxter Springs, Kansas. The Rev. Audie Tash will officiate. Special thank you to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice for Clyde’s wonderful and compassionate care.
