Ethel Hoffman

(From Greenlawn Funeral Home)

Ethel Mae Hall was born on January 26, 1930 to Raymond E. Hall and Orpha E. Easley Hall in Twin Falls, Idaho. She spent her childhood in several areas of northern Missouri before settling in Howell County Missouri, in and around the Hocomo and Moody areas. She was the second of six children all of whom have preceded her in death: Alice (Hall) Endicott, Anna Lou (Hall) Norris, David (Dee) Hall, Donald Hall, and Jack Hall.

She married Clyde Hoffman of Wann, OK, in 1954 and they had five children. The couple made their home in Colorado and Oklahoma before moving their family to Cabool, Missouri, in 1963.

Cabool remained her home until moving to the Springfield area in 1980. While in Cabool, Mrs. Hoffman worked at the MFA Exchange and the Honeycutt Chevrolet dealership as a bookkeeper. When they moved to Springfield she continued as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Vincel Buick dealership where she remained until her retirement in 2005.

Ethel Hoffman will be remembered by those who knew her as a kind, welcoming woman who cared deeply about her relationship with Jesus and who loved her family well. Through the years she enjoyed teaching ladies’ Sunday School classes at Cabool First Baptist Church and North Nixa Baptist Church. She also developed a passion for making quilts and continued to share that gift with others for many years. Her quilts found their way into the homes of her many family members and friends. She was thrilled to picture her quilts being used and “loved to pieces”. As a child she became an avid reader which was a past time she continued via her computer until her death.

After spending several years living with her daughters, Mrs. Hoffman spent the last six years of her life as a resident of Glendale Gardens Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in Springfield, MO, where she was well cared for and where she was appreciated for her contented attitude and welcoming manner.

Ethel Hoffman is survived by four of her children: Sherry (Barry) Linville, Springfield; James Hoffman, Carthage: Stanley (Janey) Hoffman, Marshfield; and Patty (Paul) Dixon, Republic. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Hoffman, Pleasanton, TX; 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Hoffman was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, and her youngest son, Michael Hoffman of Dublin, TX.
