Walter Hartman

Walter L. Hartman, age 88, of Neosho, MO, formerly of Monett, entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, July 3, 2023, while at Freeman Hospital in Joplin with his wife at his side.

Walt was born on July 22, 1934 in Kansas City, MO, son of the late John and Velda Gertrude (Williams) Hansford. He graduated from Amity High School, Amity, OR, with the class of 1952.

For over twenty-seven years, Walt owned and operated Gliedt Electric in Monett. 








Walt was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He enjoyed trains, traveling, going to casinos and eating a fine dinner. Walt especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walt was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

On July 18, 1953, Beverly Alice Murray and Walter Louis Hartman were united in marriage in Mountain View, MO. They were blessed with five children and over sixty years together before Beverly’s passing on January 20, 2014. On November 17, 2015 in Miami, OK, Walt married Margaret Ann “Peggy” Friel. They have shared countless wonderful memories made together.








Walt is survived by his wife, Peggy, of the home; three sons, Mike Hartman, and wife Cristina, of Auburn, WA, Russell Hartman, and wife Ruby, of Monett and Keith Hartman, and wife Sharrie, of Monett; two daughters, Elaine Hartman, of Monett and Ann McCully, and husband Steve, of Monett; two step-children, Vickie Stuart and husband Mark, of Neosho, MO and Glen Maxton and wife Kim, of Neosho; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; six step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; two dogs, Peaches and Mariah; one granddog, Bentley; and a host of extended family and friends.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and his sister, Lucille Chowning.

A service to celebrate the life and times of Mr. Hartman will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Liberty United Methodist Church, 21034 F.R. 1090, Monett, with Reverend Nancy DeJager officiating. Friends may pay their respects for a time of visitation from noon until 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Show-Me Christian Youth Home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
