Carol Scribner

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Carol Lee Scribner (maiden Barker) was born on March 20, 1951, in Jasper County, Missouri. She died on December 21, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 72.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, and her husband, Cecil E. Scribner.

Carol is survived by her four children: Tandi Hopper (James) of Diamond, Missouri; Travis Scribner of Joplin, Missouri; Kelli Jones (Eddie) of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; and Jessica Newberry (John) of Carterville, Missouri. She is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a handful of bonus grandchildren.

Carol was a loving, selfless mother. She was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker while each of her children was young, despite the 14 year gap between the births her oldest two children and her youngest two children. She attended all the games and recitals, and later down the road, was one of the first people to hold each of her grandbabies when they were born. She would do anything for her kids.

She worked at Head Start for over twenty years, in the kitchen and later in the office.

Carol was a faithful friend and had many friendships that were decades long. She kept in touch with her extended family.

Carol was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a testimony that God is her Father and that Jesus Christ is her Savior and believed in the power of prayer.

Carol loved horses and had a special interest in the Old West and Native Americans. She was a cowgirl at heart.

Carol was a loving and devoted grandmother. She spent time with each of her grandchildren, often babysitting the ones who were still young. She was the kind of grandma who sat on the floor and played, used silly voices, and cuddled.

Carol was a good judge of character and had a playful sense of humor. She had a knack for finding the good in people and withholding judgment.

Carol will be deeply missed. She leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, sacrifice, and hope in the face of adversity.

The family will have a private viewing before the cremation of her remains.

A memorial service in her honor is scheduled for 11:00 on Saturday, December 30, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Neosho, Missouri, at 1226 Ridgewood Road.
