Ralph Overturf

Ralph Overturf, 79, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Christmas morning while recovering from a recent surgery.

Ralph was born October 1, 1944, in Elberon, Iowa. After graduating from High School, he joined the Army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning a commendation for bravery.

In 1966, he married Linda Reck, and together they had two children: Katharine and Allen.








He held various jobs before owning the Thunderbird Motel in Joplin during the eighties and nineties. He last worked as a truck driver and, for a time, was able to travel the country with Linda at his side.

Ralph enjoyed following the stock market and watching comedy movies and old TV shows.

He is survived by a sister, Kay Sandbeck of Kennewick, Washington; daughter Katharine (Darin) Stratton of Joplin; and son Allen (Kristy) Overturf of Austin, TX. He was also survived by six grandchildren: Tasha (Murphy) Alvis; Caleb, Benjamin, and Jacob Stratton; Rebecca (Eli) Tinsley; and Cheyenne Overturf; as well as four adorable great-grandchildren: Piper & Dawsyn Stratton and Evelynn & Atticus Alvis.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Malfeld, and Linda, his loving wife of 40 years.
