(From Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home)Harold Gene Lasley, age 87, of Montevallo, Missouri, passed away due to a short illness, surrounded by his loving family on December 18, 2023.
Gene was born on May 1, 1936, in Skyler County, Missouri, to Homer and IdaBell Lasley. Gene graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1954. He ran a mechanic shop and gas station in Montevallo, Missouri, with his dad for many years, along with doing many years of farming with dad, son, and grandson, Lane. Gene served in the military from 1958-1961.
In April of 1965, he married Louise Benham and to this union two children were born, Christi and Michael. In 1981, Gene was one of the founding fathers of the Olympia Fire Department. In 1982, he started his career as a deputy. He worked in Vernon and Dade County as a deputy and was also a city cop in Lockwood, Missouri. He retired from law enforcement in 1998.
In his later years, he loved showing his grandkids how to hunt, fish, work on machinery, and cut wood. He would always have snacks hidden in his van, and the grandkids and great grandkids would always know where to go and get snacks. His greatest joy was spending time with his son and grandkids, especially haying with his grandson, Lane. He also loved transporting his Mennonite friends.
Gene is survived by his son, Michael (Kimberly) Lasley; six grandchildren: Michaela (Josh) Menego, Courtney (J.R. Marshall) Lasley, Lane (Sahara) Lasley, Lindsay (Brandon) Lasley, Justin Lasley, and Melissa Lasley; five great grandchildren: Aubree Menego, Gabe Menego, Laklynn Menego , Brantley Menego, and Tyson Marshall; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and IdaBell Lasley; brother, Floyd Lasley; sister, Thelma Lasley Wosoba; ex-wife, Louise Lasley; daughter, Christi Lasley Sutton; brother-in-law. Fred Wosoba; and nephew, Floyd Wosoba.
