(From Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home)Butch (Harold Lee) Mitchell, 82, of Everton passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023. He was born May 1, 1941, in Everton, Missouri, to Jessie (Cooper) Mitchell and Charles Allen Mitchell. The youngest of 8 children, Butch attended Meeks Country School before continuing his high school education at Everton.
In the mid-1960s, Butch worked at an aircraft factory in Everton where he met his future wife, Judy Bishop. Butch and Judy were married in October of 1967 and to their union were born two (2) daughters, Donetta and Patricia.
Some years later, Butch embarked on a career in heating and air conditioning with Tom Powell & Sons. Eventually Butch left Tom Powell & Sons to work for Goff Heating & Air. Butch spent many years in the heating and air conditioning industry, retiring from Goff Heating & Air in 2002.
Not one to sit idle for long, Butch decided retirement was not for him and went to work as a bus driver for the Everton School District. Only recently retiring from that position in 2022.
After retirement, Butch spent almost every afternoon at the “office” catching up on the day's events, otherwise known as Kenney’s Station. If Butch wasn’t working, he was likely outside enjoying his favorite past times. When the weather was warm, he was fishing. If the weather was cold he was hunting.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie (Cooper) Mitchell and Charles Allen Mitchell; 6 siblings – Bertie Still, Francis “Buster” Mitchell, Buela Ferguson, Christine Harris, Maudie Paul, and Edna Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy, of the home; daughters Donetta Daniel (Bill Fellers) of Springfield and Patricia Gall of Everton; grandsons Charles “Bear” Mitchell (Stephanie) of Springfield, Tyler Daniel (Alyssa) of Lockwood, Mitchell Gall of Everton and granddaughter Delaney Gall of Everton; great-grandsons Tyler Howell (Canyon) of Republic, Wyatt Mitchell of Springfield, Logan Mitchell of Springfield, McKrae Daniel of Lockwood, Sayler Creed of Lockwood and Dexlyn Daniel of Lockwood; brother Ed Mitchell (Jeanette) of Everton, brother-in-law Buddy Paul of Kansas City, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, December 15, 2023 at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Ash Grove. Funeral services will be 1:00PM, Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, with burial at Liberty Cemetery, Everton, MO.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Liberty Church or American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home.
