(From Clark Funeral Home)Donna Mae Ellyson Ward, a beloved soul cherished by family and friends, peacefully departed this world on December 13, 2023, in Neosho, at the age of 98. Her life was one of love, service, and joyful connections.
Born on November 21, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, Donna's early years were marked by a journey that traversed various cities due to her father's work with the J.C. Penney Company. Her spirit of generosity shone brightly during World War II as she, alongside her mother and sisters, volunteered at the North Platte Canteen, offering freshly baked cookies and donuts to soldiers on troop trains—a testament to her kind heart and dedication to service.
After the war, she pursued education at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she encountered her life partner, Jim. Their union in September 1949 began a journey that took them across several cities, following Jim's career with the J.C. Penney Company, ultimately settling in Neosho, where they established cherished friendships and called home for over five decades.
Donna's commitment to her community and faith was unwavering. A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Neosho, she shared her passion for music by serving as the choir director and Sunday school teacher. Her involvement extended to her 75-year membership with PEO. Her professional life as a medical assistant was marked by dedication until her retirement in 1991, after which she found joy in pursuits such as bridge, golf, and the companionship of her dear dog, Sam.
