Susie May (Solomon) Cook, age 109, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2023, in Joplin. She was born on June 14, 1914, to Alpha Minnie (Taylor) Connor and Tom (Chief) Connor in the Redings Mill area. She was a graduate of Joplin High School in 1932.
She owned and operated Sol’s Place restaurant located at first on Eighth Street, then on Main Street in Joplin for 24 years.
She was a lifelong member of Blendville Christian Church. After high school, she married John Elbert Solomon, who preceded her in death. Then in 1985, she married Harold G. Cook who preceded her in death in 2009.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Solomon, two daughters, Jerry Sue Rentfro and Joan Rolleg; two sons, Jim (Lucy) Cook and Richard (Sydney) Cook; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She is preceded in death by her son, Jon Solomon, two sons-in-law, Wayne Rentfro and Larry Rolleg; grandson, Eric Willis; and great-grandson Jace Madison.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with burial to follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, December 27th beginning at 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to Intrepid Hospice and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
