(From Midland Cremation Company)Orville Allen Darnaby, age 78, passed away January 11, 2024 at the Medical Lodge Nursing Home in Fort Scott, Kansas. Allen was born on December 25th, 1945 at home in rural Arcadia, Kansas to Orville F.and Verna (Tingley) Darnaby. (His parents preceded him in death). He is survived by his wife Cindy Rauch Darnaby.
Allen attended Arcadia High School, Arcadia, Kansas and graduated there in 1963.
He then attended Pittsburg State University for two years. Allen then transferred to Kansas University, Lawrence, Kansas for three years and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. In the late 1960’s Allen was drafted into the US Army and spent one year of his tour of duty in the Vietnam Artillery Unit. Allen received the Bronze Star for his service.
Upon returning to the United States Allen attended Texas A & M University where he graduated with a degree in Architectural Design. During his career Allen owned and operated several businesses. Most well known locally were Darnaby’s Country House and Darnaby’s Green Houses.
In addition to his wife Cindy other survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Ligon of Austin, Texas, a son, Shane (Bobbie) Holt, daughter Shana (Paul) Diebold , eleven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a sister, Mary Alice LaGrande of Carl Junction, Missouri.
There will be no tradition funeral service per Allen’s personal wishes. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
