John Fields

John Fields passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 7:10 pm at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS, surrounded by his family, at the age of 80 years old.

He was born on April 27, 1943 in Pittsburg to John Henry Fields and Margaret Eva (Hay) Fields. John attended Pittsburg USD 250 schools graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1961. He joined the Navy, serving as a Petty Officer 3rd Class torpedo man aboard the USS Wasp CVS 18 from 1961 to 1965.








After serving in the Navy, he started working for AT&T in New Hampshire and Massachusetts and attended Northern Essex Jr. College, receiving a degree in Business Management. After working for AT&T for twenty-eight years, he took early retirement and moved back home to Kansas.

Membership was held in Royal Order of Mason, the Scottish Rite, Royal Order of Jesters, and a former Kansas Wildlife and Parks Commissioner. His interest was reading, hunting, fishing, wild life observer, golf, watching sports, and any activity his grandchildren were involved in. He acquired his love of reading from his mother and he especially enjoyed history.

He married Deanna Packard Clark Fields on May 30, 1992 and together they had a blended family of five children, fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, John was also the seventh child in a family of fifteen children.

John is survived by his wife, Deanna of the home; children Christopher Fields (Nicole) of Joplin, MO; Kimberly Vetter (Dave) of Olympia, WA; John D Clark (Kimberly); Kimberley Casper and Debra O’Doherty (Matthew) all of Pittsburg. Grandchildren Chris, Parker, and Logan Fields; Elyse and Emma Vetter; Kelly Erwin (Jace), Matthew Clark (Kayla), James Clark (fiancĂ© Lindsey), and Kayla Clark; Andie Stalder (Garrett), Allison and Abigail Casper; and Andrew and Grant O’Doherty. He also leaves his great-grandchildren Jameson, Cayson, Reece, Lenyx, Breckin, Sophia, Elle, Brittney, Shiloh, Silas, and Boden. Other survivors include his brothers Fred (Linda), Larry (Sooki), Terry (Vicki) Fields and sisters Joyce Mishmash (Carl) and Patricia Victor (John) and many nieces and nephews.








John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill, Tim, Bobby, Wayne, Mark, and Howard Fields and sisters Lavon Tompkins, June Dougherty, and Margaret Fossey.

The family appreciates the loving care that John received by those attending to him during his illness these past months.

Services for John will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19th, at Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Garrett Stalder officiating. Private family burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 18th) at Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday to sign the book. The family suggests memorials be given to the First Church of the Nazarene of Pittsburg (PittNaz). These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
