Mary Sims

Mary A. (Birch) Sims, of Greenfield, MO, departed this life on December 22, 2023 at the age of 79 years.

She was born October 12, 1944 in Beloit, KS to Clyde and Dorothy Birch. Her family moved back to Greenfield, MO before her dad left for WWII. She was just two years old when he returned back home. Mary grew up in Greenfield until she went to SMS. At the end of her sophomore year, she applied for a job at Frisco Railroad and started two weeks later.







She worked in Springfield for 21 years with Frisco until they merged with Burlington Railroad, and she was transferred to Tulsa, OK. It was in Tulsa that she met Jim Sims, one of her ministers at her church. After dating for 4 years, they got married. Mary and Jim were transferred to the headquarters of the BNSF Railroad in Fort Worth, TX where they lived until her retirement from working 40 years with the railroad. They soon returned back to her hometown of Greenfield, MO.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Dorothy Birch; and a niece, Angie Birch.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Sims; step-daughters, Fran and Julie; brother, Tim Birch and wife Donna; sister, Norma Sowersby and husband Lonnie; niece, Rachel Sowersby; nephews, Chris and Kyle Birch; and a host of cousins and life-long friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Mary’s Honor can be made to the Christian Restoration Ministries: 3247 North Nixon Ave. Springfield, MO 65803. Cremation services were under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
