(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Genevieve “Geno” Montez, 93 years old, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, August 1st, surrounded by her family.
Born to Juan and Genoveva Ruiz on September 18, 1930, in El Paso, Texas, Genevieve lived a long life that she dedicated to her family and hard work.
Genevieve married her late husband George Montez in October of 1945.
She is survived by her children Florentino Cortez (late wife Sylvia Cortez), Steve Montez (Carol Montez), Benito Montez (Trisha Montez), Juan Montez (Janet Montez), Gloria Cupp (Claude Cupp), Martha Sohosky (Jason Sohosky) and grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous siblings, and is preceded in death by son Arturo Montez and daughter Esther Amayo.
She was known in the community for owning the original Casa Montez with her husband George Montez and could be seen working at other restaurants that her kids had in the area. Genevieve had many roles: wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend. Many people called her grandma because she always treated everyone like they were part of the family. Whether she was filling up the room with laughter, dancing around to a song, or cooking family dinner, she was always bringing lots of love and joy to those around her. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
