Carolyn Collins

(From Peterson Funeral Chapel)

Carolyn Sue Collins (Pendergrass), age 62, of Aurora, Missouri, is remembered with gratitude for a life marked by devotion, curiosity, and quiet strength.

Born to Salina (Brisco) Pendergrass and James Pendergrass, Carolyn was later raised with the steady care of her stepfather, Bill Park, who became a true father figure in her life. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Charlotte Ormsby and her husband, Wayne; Sharon Huse and her husband, Lonnie; Calvin Pendergrass and his wife, Melissa; Rick Pendergrass and his wife, Betty; and James Pendergrass.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Derrick Rose, and his husband, Ralph, of Cranford, New Jersey; and her sister-in-law, Connie Pendergrass; many special nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends who shared in her life and companionship.

At the center of Carolyn’s life was her role as a mother. She approached motherhood with constancy and care, serving as a room mother, attending school events, and supporting every sporting activity. Her presence was unwavering, and her pride in her son was evident in all that she did.

She delighted in travel and adventure, whether setting out on a spontaneous Sunday drive with no destination in mind or sharing meaningful moments on family cruises. These journeys reflected her love of exploration and her enjoyment of time spent with loved ones.

A lifelong dog lover, Carolyn shared her home with many beloved pets. In her later years, her dog, Fancy, was a constant companion and source of comfort.

A celebration of life will be held at the Aurora Recreation Center on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 12:00-2:00 PM. Private interment will take place at Maple Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn’s memory to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, honoring her deep affection for animals.

Arrangements are under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel.
