(From Ozark Funeral Home)Debra Ruth Pruett, known affectionately to friends and family as Debbie, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2026, in Neosho, Missouri. Born on June 18th, 1957, in Long Beach, California, Debbie's vibrant spirit and boundless kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was a beacon of warmth and generosity throughout her 68 years of life.
Debbie grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where she developed a profound appreciation for her Choctaw heritage, which later blossomed into a passion for traditional textiles and arts. Her love for art was not just a hobby but a way of life. Debbie had a talent for drawing, weaving, beading, and jewelry making, and she found joy in teaching others about the significance of traditional crafts. Her artistic soul and creative hands brought to life countless pieces of beauty that will be cherished by her family and friends for generations to come.
After settling in Anderson, Missouri, Debbie became an entrepreneur, channeling her love for animals into a successful small business as a dog breeder and groomer for approximately 20 years. Her gentle nature and loving care for her animals reflected her kind-hearted approach to life. Debbie's commitment to her work was evident in the joy she took in pairing families with their perfect furry companions.
A lifelong learner, Debbie pursued education with enthusiasm. She completed some college and attended trade school to become a groomer, furthering her ability to connect with and care for animals.
Debbie's life was characterized by her deep connections with her loved ones. She was a devoted daughter to her late parents, Jerald Douglas Pruett and Rochelle Nadine (Reissinger) Pruett. Her marriage to the late Billy Guy Thornton was a testament to enduring love, as they shared 28 wonderful years together. Debbie was a cherished mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength in her children and grandchildren: Karna (Spain) Bennett (Russell) and children, Aaron Winstead, Kailee Bennett; Michelle Spain (John), Patricia Elizabeth Thornton, Stephan Cummings (Kiera) and children Kylie Batson, Kaylee Cummings, Callista Cummings; Tristan Cummings (Doni) and children Pierce Cummings, Jude Cummings, and Padrigh Pruett-Thornton.
She also leaves behind her siblings, Denise Pruett and Glenn Pruett, who will continue to honor her memory by embodying the values she held dear. Debbie's friendly demeanor, loving nature, and kindness are qualities that defined her life and will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we say goodbye to Debra Ruth Pruett, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, love, and beauty. Her memory will be treasured in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to guide us in the days to come. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her influence will remain a guiding light.
A Celebration of Life for Debbie will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Home.
