Barbara J. Miller, age 74, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Wednesday morning, May 11, 2016, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family.
Barbara was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on February 3, 1942 to the union of the late Bluford and Dorothy (Porter) White. She was raised in the Tulsa area and was a graduate of East Central High School. On December 5, 1959, Barbara was united in marriage to Charles E. Miller in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Barbara had a passion for nursing and she received her LPN degree from Franklin Tech. She retired from the Joplin R-8 School District in 1984 after serving many years as a school nurse.
Barbara was preceded in death by a son, Brian Miller, on December 1, 2000.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 57 years, Charles, of the home; two sons, Curtis Miller and Eric Miller and wife, Melanie; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016 in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Pastor Reed Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service. Burial will take place at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Compassus in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
