Reba Smith

Reba Darlene Smith, 76 of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo.

Reba was born on November 7, 1939 in Treece, KS to the union of Ivan Carl and Georgia Areta (Hoover) Underhill. Reba was united in marriage on January 30, 1957 in Miami, OK to Carlton Johnnie Smith. Reba worked for a period of time as a waitress for the former Murphy’s Restaurant in Baxter Springs. She spent the most of her life as a homemaker, loving and caring for her family and friends. If you knew Reba, she was always putting other people’s needs before hers. She loved gardening, planting flowers, sewing and especially the time she spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed her favorite little dog Karmella, which was one of the family in her eyes.

Reba is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Betty Russell, Sue Hart, and Judy Miner; three brothers, Irvin Underhill, Leon Underhill, and Lloyd Underhill.

Reba is survived by her husband John Smith of the home; one son, Gary Smith of Baxter Springs; three daughters, Jan Purscelley of Baxter Springs, Carla Dunbar and husband Tracy of Baxter Springs, and Tracie Triplett and husband Sam of Joplin, MO; three brothers, Ivan Underhill of Baxter Springs, Stan Underhill of Hockerville, OK, Michael Underhill of Baxter Springs; two sisters, Marie Irwin of Baxter Springs, and Frona Walsh of Baxter Springs; eleven grandchildren, Josh Reed and wife Maria, Jake Reed and wife Megean, Kade Dunbar and wife Angie, Aaron Dunbar and significant other Whitney (Koch), MacKenzie Dunbar and significant other Sam Gavin, Callie Smith, Shelby Smith and significant other Thomas Dunbar, Derek Barnes, Gavin Davis Triplett, Lilly Triplett, and Hunter Triplett; fifteen great grandchildren, and extended family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2016 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pastor Wes Woodcock will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 1:00- 2:00 p.m., at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Grandson’s will serve as pallbearers.
