(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Gaylord Wayne Smith, age 80, of rural Milford, Missouri, passed away early Thursday morning, May 12, 2016, surrounded by family at his home.
Gaylord was born December 19, 1935, at his family home near Golden City, Missouri to Norval and Katie (Wright) Smith. After graduating from Lockwood High School in the spring of 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Edith Pitts on August 28, 1954. They made their home and farmed in Barton County, raising their son, Joe, and sharing nearly 62 years together. Gaylord was a member of Newport Baptist Church.
An avid outdoorsman, Gaylord enjoyed fishing and absolutely loved to hunt, whether it be deer, turkey, quail, or any small game. For Gaylord, a perfect day of hunting would include the companionship of close friends and family, especially Joe and his grandson, Tyler.
Survivors include his wife, Edith; son and daughter-in-law, Joe & Ramona Smith, Milford; two grandchildren, Katie & husband, Moss Palmer of Rock Port, Missouri and Tyler Smith, Milford; four great-grandchildren, Lily, Caleb, Alex, and Eric; and a large extended family. Gaylord was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carlos “Bud” Taylor and Jess Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 15th at Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Lonnie Pennell officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
