Carl Bible, age 86, of Joplin, MO. moved from his earthly home to his heavenly home at 4:58 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2016. Carl war born June 2, 1929 to Robert and Lorena Housman Bible in Rocky Comfort, Mo. Carl was a graduate of Rocky Comfort High School. In 1951 Carl served as forward observer for the Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sgt. He received two bronze stars. After returning from the service Carl was employed with Horton Office Supply, later known as Office Concepts in Joplin. For over 30 years he installed and repaired business systems.
Carl was active in the American Legion Post 13 in Joplin and received the Commander Award in 1996-1999 for his leadership. For many area veterans he was part of the Honor Guard at their funeral. Carl was an active member of the Joplin Host Lions Club, serving as President in 1994-1995. In 2011 he received the Melvin Jones Fellow from the International Foundation for dedicated humanitarian services.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Lynda Metsker, a sister, Mary England, a brother, Richard Bible, two grandchildren, Nikole Clontz and Heather Cagle, four great grandchildren, Katie, Garrett, Ryder, and Rhys, and his nieces and nephews. Additional survivors include Martha’s family, Max and Lynn Ruhl of Rocky Comfort, his church family at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist in Rocky Comfort, and his fishing buddy, Dennis. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kathy Butler, and two brothers, Artie, and Bobby Gene Bible.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3-4 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Rocky Comfort Cemetery with Rev. Melvin “Hap” Anders officiating. Military Honors will be presented. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church in Rocky Comfort in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, MO.
