William Coombs Lee age 67, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital.
Bill was born October 2, 1948 in Joplin, son of the late Bill B. Lee and Margot C. Lee. He graduated from Neosho High School, and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a BSBA degree in banking and finance. He was also a graduate of LSU's Graduate School of Banking and later served on their Board of Directors. He worked for several banks throughout his career including First National Bank of Nowata, Oklahoma; First National Bank of Neosho; President of State Bank of Seneca; President of First National Bank of Mount Vernon; and Community President for Arvest Bank's Carthage and Neosho markets. He retired from Arvest Bank in 2013. Throughout his banking career, he was actively involved in the Missouri Bankers Association (MBA). His numerous leadership roles on MBA boards, committees and task forces were recognized and appreciated by bankers across the entire state of Missouri. Elected by his peers, he served on the MBA Board of Directors, Surety Agency Board and Government Relations Committee as Chairman. He was active in many local civic groups throughout his career including Rotary, Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri and individual Community Foundation boards in Carthage, Joplin and Mt. Vernon, Crowder College Foundation Board, Freeman Hospital Board and Children's Miracle Network. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Shrine Club.
A fun-loving family man, Bill enjoyed a variety of activities. As an avid outdoorsman he loved to golf, hunt, and fish. He particularly cherished his lifelong fishing trips with family to Lake of the Woods in Canada. Not one to keep the fun to himself, he loved magic and sharing his tricks with all. In addition to his hobbies, he always enjoyed opportunities to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sharyn R. Lee; sons: Bill C. Lee (Lynnette), Matt A. Lee (Sarah) of Joplin, Jonny Lee of Los Angeles, California; Garth Haugen (Sue) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Tate Wiggins (John) of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Bo Lee (Linda) of Joplin, Gregg Lee (Kathy) of Neosho, Tim Lee (Diana) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Austin Lee, Sami Lee, Aaron Lee, Maggie Lee, Tanner Haugen, Aidan Haugen, and Sadie Wiggins.
Memorial services will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage with The Reverend Steven Wilson officiating. A Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. followed by a visitation until 7:30 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Miracle Network, the Bill and Margot Lee Scholarship fund at Crowder College, or the charity of choice.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
