Junior A. Pliler, age 87, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Mercy Hospital.
Junior was born May 8, 1929 in West Plains, Missouri, son of the late William Thomas Pliler and Lola Faye Collins Pliler. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, and was discharge with the rank of Corporal. He married Lavon Wake on September 1, 1954, in Salem, Arkansas, and the couple moved to Joplin where he worked as a truck driver for various companies before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by two grandsons, Nicholas and Cory, a step-grandson, Paul, three brothers, two sisters, five step-brothers, and a step-sister.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lavon; five children, Larry Pliler and wife Brenda of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Terry Pliler and wife Sonya of Tulsa, Linda Sloniker and husband Sam of Oronogo, Missouri, Brenda Williams and husband Paul of Carthage, Missouri, and Tammy Brewer and husband Ed of Hollister, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Brittany, Mason, Megan, Christina, Clayton, Kyndall, Jessica, Kamila, Ashley, and Andrew; seven great-grandchildren; 25 step-grandchildren, and numerous step-great-grandchildren .
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church with Pastor D.A. Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
