Dee Shaw

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Dolores “Dee” Shaw, age 79, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at KU Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born an only child to the union of the late John and Olga Lewellen in Marion, Kansas on January 24, 1937. In her early years, Dee was a world class baton twirler and part of many USO Tours overseas. She was educated in Wichita, Kansas. She attended secretarial school and graduated being able to type 230 words per minute on a manual typewriter. Dee was hired at Boeing Wichita where she met her future husband, Ivan. There were married on October 17, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma and they lived happily together for 53 ½ years.

Dee was a florist and shop owner in Wichita for more than 25 years, involved in many organizations and activities. She was especially devoted to the sports activities of her son. She moved to Sarcoxie, Missouri with her husband in 1999 to be near family. Dee was a member of the Sarcoxie United Methodist Church and served in the choir, bell choir and on the Board for many years. In 2010, Dee was named Sarcoxie Squaw because of her numerous contributions and hours of volunteering at the Senior Center, the Gene Taylor Museum and the church and she was very proud of this honor. She was always down for a game of cards and enjoyed her bridge club on Mondays. Her hobbies included reading, cooking and quilting. In addition to her children and her grandchild, Haylee, she adored her various dogs and cats. Dee will be greatly missed by all.

Dee is survived by her beloved husband, Ivan; her daughter, Valorie, and husband, Walter Ockert, of Joplin; her son, Brian, and wife, Michelle, of Wichita; and one granddaughter, Haylee Shaw, also of Wichita.
