Charles Cornick McGinness, age 93, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 following a recent decline in health.
He was born in Alva, Oklahoma to Charles and Frances (Cornick) McGinness.
Charles was an educator for Crowder College for 17 years retiring in 1987. He attended MSSU and received his Masters degree from Pittsburg State University. Charles served his country during World War II with the United States Army Signal Corps from 1942-1943 and was also an Army Reservist for one year. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was in the orchestra and played the clarinet. He was a member of Fellowship Lodge #345 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Shrine Club Mirzah, Pittsburg, Kansas for 50 years as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed stamp collecting, chess, music, model rail roads and, electronic projects.
He married Charlotte White on December 26, 1959 in Miami, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death in January 2006.
Charles is survived by one sister, Constance P. Davis, Omaha, Nebraska; two nieces, Dr. M. Elizabeth Davis, Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Catherine Davis, Windsor, Colorado; one nephew, Allen McGinness, Dallas, Texas; and special friends, Kelly Peterson and Melissa Purcell, both of Joplin, Missouri.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with Dr. Dave Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Masonic services will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary with visitation following until 7:00 p.m.
