Earl Wayne Jenness, age 79, Joplin, passed away on Friday, May 6,2015 at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.
Earl was born December 6, 1936 in Granby, Missouri, son of the late Robert Larance Jenness and Flora Donia Mecsch Jenness. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1955, served in the Naval Reserves, and worked as a diesel mechanic all his career for various companies in the Joplin area, including Union Carbide. He also was a professor at Crowder College in Neosho for several years. Earl was an active member of Central Christian Center for over 40 years where he was a deacon and elder, and served on the Bus Ministry for many years. He enjoyed hunting, camping, bowling, and fishing with his family, and enjoyed wood working in his spare time.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Jenness.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Betty Ann Watkins Janness; children, Dr. Jeff Jenness (Theresa), Gary Jenness (Helen), Vicki Nicoletti (Terry), and Traci Hadley (Ron); brother, Jim Jenness (Kay); 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Pastors Hank Deslatte and Doug Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Burkhart Cemetery, Racine, Missouri with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
