(From Parker Mortuary)
Karen Kaye Thomason, age 75 of Joplin, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Landmark Hospital Joplin.
She was born January 17, 1943 in Joplin, to the late Daniel Alvin Woolever and Eva Jane (Hamilton) Woolever. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1960, and met the love of her life shortly after graduation. Karen married Leroy Thomason on August 18, 1961 in Joplin.
She worked for many years, but became a homemaker in 1984. She spent the next several years helping raise her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as Nanny. Nanny spent many years at track meets, softball games, and toting children back and forth to their property on Table Rock Lake. Nanny was an expert at pulling a skier, and even better at balancing on the back of the boat seat to wave her arms and yell when another boat got too close.
Nanny is survived by her husband, Leroy (Poppy), of the home.
Additional survivors include sister Tina Ruark and husband, Joe, Joplin; brother Danny Woolever and wife, Karen, Joplin; two daughters, Chris Strait and fiancé, Max Spencer of Webb City, Cindy Moran and husband, Blair, Joplin; two nieces, Danna Woolever, Kansas City, and Sarah Pearcy, Joplin; one nephew, Dusty Woolever, Joplin; five grandchildren, Jacob Asbell and wife, Krista, Carl Junction, Sabrina Reineke and husband, Seth, Carl Junction, Russell Asbell and Collin Asbell, both of Carl Junction, Cody Strait and wife, Erin, Groton, CT; five great-grandchildren, Sophie Spencer-Asbell, Austynn Asbell, Madelyn Reineke, Dylan Strait, and one due in December.
