William McDowell

William Edward McDowell, Jr., 58, Jasper, MO, passed away early Thursday morning, July 12, 2018 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Lockwood, MO, with family by his side. 

William E. McDowell, Jr. was born October 30, 1959 in Wichita, KS to William Edward McDowell, Sr. and Patricia Ann (Clark) McDowell. William graduated from Baldwin High School of Puerto Rico, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Class of 1977. William went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology (Emphasis in Manufacturing Engineering Technology) from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, May of 1984. 

William married Robyn Ann Bastin on June 1, 1985 in Carthage, MO; she survives. He worked as a mechanical engineer/project engineering III for Leggett & Platt for 23 years in Carthage, MO. He later continued his career working as a drafting supervisor and project manager for 8 years at Finley Engineering in Lamar, Missouri. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, of Carthage. William had a passion for family, travel, adventure, engineering, and his hobbies including his elaborate model train village.

Survivors include his father, William, his wife Robyn, one daughter, Dr. Carrie Lynette Hartigan (husband Joseph), Springfield, MO; two sons, Michael William McDowell (wife Shelby), Jasper, MO, and Matthew Joseph McDowell, Kansas City, MO; one brother, Thomas Alan McDowell (wife Patricia), Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Loeffler (husband Mark), Hesston, KS, and Caroline Clark Chrisco (husband Michael), Overland Park, KS; and two grandchildren, Andrew Parker McDowell and soon to arrive Isaac William McDowell.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia.

Visitation will be held 6-7 pm, Friday, July 20, 2018 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Memorial services will be held 10 am, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Knell Mortuary. Rev. Gregory Esselman will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service at Mitchell Cemetery, Jasper, MO. Memorial gifts are suggested to Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Lockwood, MO, or the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage, MO in care of Knell Mortuary.
