Scotty Scott

(From Parker Mortuary)

Richard H. "Scotty" Scott, 73, of Joplin, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018.

Scotty was born October 22, 1944 to the late Hearl and Cecile Scott. He was raised on the family farm in Medoc, MO where he was youngest of five children. He graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1962, then briefly worked for Thriftway prior to serving his country in the United States Army 45th Surgical Hospital in Tay Ninh, Vietnam. After returning home from the war, he went to work for Wonder Bread, then retired from Dolly Madison after 27 years. After “retirement,” he joined Roper Auto where he pursued his real passion…cars. Scotty was an antique car enthusiast and they all knew him by name at the DMV.

If you knew Scotty, you loved him. He did not have an enemy in this world, and always had a joke or story to tell. His laughter and love for life were infectious. Scotty lived each day the way we all should, by being the kind of man that people are going to miss. The world is a better place because of him and the lives he came in contact with will forever be changed.

In addition to his parents, Scotty was preceded in death by his sisters, Treva Hunter, Frieda Audet, and Stella DuCharme; and his brother, Stuart Scott.

He is survived by his daughter, Brandy Jones and husband Dustin of Little Rock, AR; long time companion, Carolyn Spiva; stepchildren, Tom Buford and wife Beth of Neosho; Debra Gann and husband Bobby of Pryor, OK; Chuck Cruzan of Eagle Rock, MO; Angela Consani and husband Quint of Basehor, KS; Lance Burton and wife Megan of Olathe, KS; Melinda Burton and Brian Bentz of Neosho; 16 grandchildren, Max Stults, Sarah Buford, Lydia Beaver, Paul Duggar, Matthew Gann, Samantha Gann, Kylie Mueller, Lauren Jarvis, Courtney Jones, Reese Consani, Kohlsen Burton, Dru Burton, Braxton Burton, Victoria Endicott, Mari Endicott, and Zoie Endicott; and his favorite little buddy and singing partner, Otis the basset hound.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday evening at Parker Mortuary.

Graveside services for immediate family will be on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Higginsville, MO with full military honors.

The family requests contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society (JHS), 140 E. Emperor Lane, Joplin, MO 64801 in memory of Richard “Scotty” Scott.
