Raymond W. Lowry, age 89, passed away on July 25, 2018 at his home after a short but intense battle with lung cancer. He was born June 8, 1929 in Joplin, Mo., the son of the late Louis and Dorothy Lowry. He was one of ten children.
Raymond served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Raymond married Dorothy Brower Beck on June 11, 1960 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She survives at home. He is also survived by two brothers, Glenn Lowry, Joplin, and Jerry Couch, Carl Junction, Mo.; six children, Kathi Southard, Joplin, Allen Beck (Charlotte), Grove, Ok., Denise Grooms (Randy), Redings Mills, Mo., Lori Wilder (Billy), Joplin, Cindy Patino (Andy) Dickinson, Tx., and Jennifer Sewell (Steve), Webb City, Mo.; sixteen beloved grandchildren, T.J. Southard, Kellie Mintzlaff, Katie Walker, Allan Beck, Eric Beck, Jesse Grooms, Cassidy Claar, Amber Henson, Ashlee Comparato, Alexis Givens, Adam Clifton, Ryan Patino, Alicia Patino, Cindy Patino, Zachary Sewell, and Sarah Sewell; and he was blessed with an abundance of great-grandchildren.
Raymond was an avid hunter and fisherman in mountains and rivers of North Idaho. He guided friends, neighbors and others to fish and hunt, earning him the title “The Old Bear”. In 1978, the family moved back to Joplin where he continued his passion with the outdoors. He was still fishing and setting limb lines, until his illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Reverend Joseph Weidenbenner will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday with a visitation to follow at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
