William Calvin Smith, 81, Sheldon, MO passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada. William was born on December 16, 1936 in Liberal, MO to William Franklin and Mabel Edna (West) Smith. He married Virginia Louise Spillman on June 30, 1963 in Greenfield, MO and she survives of the home.
William was raised in Liberal and was a 1955 graduate of Liberal High School. He was a farmer and raised dairy cattle. William never met a stranger and was quite a storyteller. He enjoyed going to auctions and reading the newspaper.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by his two daughters, Amy Miler and her husband Randy, Lamar, MO and Karla Barrett and her husband John, Amoret, MO; four grandchildren, Adrian Miler and William “Will” Miler, both of Lamar, Shantez Smith, Nevada and Sabrina Barrett, Amoret; siblings Marvin Smith and his wife Betty, Liberal and Marlin Hunter and her husband Richard, Littleton, CO; nieces, nephews; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson John James Barrett, and brothers Norman and Melvin Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Barton City Cemetery, Liberal, MO, with Robert Sissick officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
