Jean James

Jewel Alene “Jean” Janes, age 89, of Seligman, Missouri passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at her home.

She was born September 7, 1929 in Radical, Missouri the daughter of Tony A. and Sallie (Schywart) Hammers. She married Clarence V. “C.V.” Cron and to this union five children were born. She then married Roy White and later Donald Janes who preceded her in death. Others preceding her in death were her parents and two sons James V. Cron and Benny L. Cron; five sisters and one grandson.

Surviving are three sons, Ted Janes and Tony Janes both of Mount Vernon, Missouri, and Michael Janes of Graham, North Carolina; six daughters, Connie A. Collins and Carol Cron both of Seligman, Missouri, Rebecca Gatrell of Springfield, Missouri, Ruth Pritchett of Seligman, Missouri, Sally Straw of Sarcoxie, Missouri and Betty Lewellen of Seligman, Missouri; thirty-two grandchildren; ninety-four great grandchildren and thirty-five great-great grandchildren.

Jean graduated from high school in Blue Eye. Her entire life was spent in Missouri, living in Radical, Kansas City, Mount Vernon, Independence, LaRussell and Seligman. Besides being a homemaker she also owned and operated the Squeeze In Cafe in Seligman. She was active in Coon Hunters Association, Lions Club, Senior Citizens, Search and Rescue and was in charge of the fire base for Seligman Fire Department for over thirty years. She was the first female Mayor of Seligman and was given a plaque for being the Mother of the Town. She was very involved in the community. If you would ask anyone for Jewel Janes, they would look at you, but ask for Mother or Motherma they knew exactly who you were talking about. She was also known as Jean to most people.

Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Her daughter, Sally Straw and grandson, Troy Cron will conduct the services. Burial will be at King Cemetery in Seligman, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
